Gallery selling fine prints and other original artworks since 1971
Established in 1971, the Annex Galleries is a salon style gallery which specializes in 19th and 20th century American, European, Hispanic and Asian Fine Prints, which includes etchings, woodcuts, lithographs and screenprints, all created as original works of art and not reproducing an existing work in another medium. Our focus is broad: American color woodcut, Arts and Crafts prints, WPA prints, Modernist and Abstract Expressionist prints from the 1940s through 1960s, prints created at Atelier 17 in New York and Paris, and California prints and printmakers. Our inventory, assembled over a period of forty years, consists of over 6000 works, most of which are available on our website, which is changed daily.
The gallery is a member of the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) and participates in a number of Fine Print Fairs and art fairs throughout the US, as well as organizing special exhibitions in the gallery and on our website.
The Annex has been the exclusive representative for the Gustave Baumann estate since 1974.

Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
40 years in Santa Rosa.
What is your primary product or service?
The exhibition and sale of Fine Prints and works on paper from around the world, primarily 20th century. We also do consultations, authentications and insurance appraisals for Fine Prints.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I studied art at the University of Wisconsin. I then began framing art, specializing in framing works on paper in Berkeley, California in the late 1960's. I moved to Sonoma County in 1969 and, after framing in Occidental, moved to Santa Rosa. I was still framing for many San Francisco galleries and collectors and began collecting for myself as well as showing works in the frameshop, which quickly morphed into a gallery, specializing in works on paper.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
The gallery is one of only a few public galleries left in the US that has a broad inventory of original prints that spans four centuries, with a broad variety of printmaking techniques and styles. The gallery works primarily with collectors and museums around the US and the world. The Annex began to use the internet with a website to show our inventory many years ago and maintains a website of over 5000 works, with pictures, information and prices that is changed daily. The result has been an expanded market that does not rely on local traffic.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
One location (down from 2 in the 1970's) and we participate in numerous trade fairs around the US, including New York, Washington DC, Cleveland, San Antonio, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, etc.
